DESTINATION : Malacca
Travel period : 26-271012
I was there to visit a good friend of mine, She Fong, who married to Malacca. and here is where de weight gaining project begins.
good day Malacca!
#1 Chicken Rice Ball @ Heng Hainanese Chicken Rice Balls, Jalan Melaka Raya.
why spend your precious time to queue under de hot sun to wait for something that doesn't really worth de wait at Jonker Street? afraid not, Mr. Chicken is directing you to another bright way =P
Chicken Rice Balls with Steamed and Roasted Chicken.
(taken together with pounded chilli sauce and / or black sauce)
I have always preferred de conventional type of chicken rice as I felt de rice fragrant will be affected when they were moulded into rice balls. needless to say, chicken rice ball is one of de signature dishes in Malacca- hence de tourist must-eat. and after today, I have to say that I actually started to accept it a little bit more. like de roasted chicken here, at least de chicken did look like chicken to me.
CLOCKWISE:
1) Fried Cabbage 2) Black Bean Soup (refillable) 3) Chicken Gizzard
Assam Fish.
another yummy appetizing dish that must not be missed.
a meal is incomplete without satisfying de sweet tooth. this is not a place where we stumbled upon by chance. She Fong brought us there on purpose. this is a place where durian lovers must not miss.
Freshly Baked Durian Cream Puffs.
taking de first bite (I mean one bite) and all I could say is-
yummy!
Durian Ice-cream.
you'll definitely fall in love (provided you like durian). it's another oh-so-good slurp!
Durian Yogurt Ice-cream.
Durian Yogurt Ice-cream.
health conscious group can go for this because it has less durian taste. I prefer Durian ice-cream if you ask me =P
#3 Cendol @ Bibik House, Jonker Street.
dropped by this place as others wanted to buy pineapple tarts. de boy was drooling over de cendol so here we were.
Normal & Durian Cendol.
sadly, it did not taste as good as how it looks. it didn't taste like anything unique and this was de uttermost failure of its gula melaka. no wonder there was a container of gula melaka on every table for people to add on (just like sugar?!). ahhhhhhhhhhhh... tragic.
L-R: Kok Soon, She Fong, Saam and Juo Wei.
coconut jelly after cendol=)
#4 Nyonya Food @ Donald & Lily Restaurant, Jln KSB 1, Taman Kota Shahbandar (new location).
I prefer to dine in de old outlet which no longer exists (now). as usual, visiting de place at 3pm left us with not many food choices as most of them were sold out.
Mee Siam.
drenched in sour and spicy sauce and I think it was slightly spicy today.
Durian Cendol.
god this is more like a- cendol.
Tau Kua Rojak.
honestly, we would not order this if there were other options available. seriously, it was quite forgettable.
#5 Seafood Dinner @ J&J Corner, Portuguese Settlement.
we opted for stall no. 10- J&J Corner. it took more than an hour for our food to be served on de table. we did not turn into grumpy cows because we were not hungry (or maybe a little). we were tired of waiting nonetheless.
Joes Only One Mango Juice.
(located beside J&J stall)
they served freshly squeezed mango juice. many people queue for it.
Mango Juice (with sour plum).
this was not an ordinary mango juice. while I'm still contemplated to go for a second cup, de boy has already drank two. try this and you'll love it. highly recommended.
Portuguese Baked Fish.
one of its specialty- and I think it was okay.
Fried Squids.
in general, overall dining experience was rated as mediocre. just don't go there when you are hungry. it did not bring great satisfaction except de mango juice.
#6 Dimsum @ Ban Hong Xiang Tea House (万鸿香茶楼), Jalan Gajah Berang.
we reached de place around 845am and it was already crowded with people (mainly locals). with nothing fancy but good food, this is a traditional eatery to reminiscence de good old times. at least it is not commercialized (yet).
happy couple- Leslie & She Fong.
Fried Oyster Omelette (Ojien).
it was a yummy plate although de oysters were quite small.
#7 Porkchop Noodle @ Hing Loong Taiwanese Noodle, Jalan Bachang.
this was de immediate meal after dimsum as de shop was just located at de corner (easily reachable by walk). I'm not kidding.
Porkchop Noodle.
noodles was smooth as they were made of soy bean. submerged in small amount of soup (lightly flavoured herbal soup) accompanied with a few pieces of fried pork ribs, it was simply awesome.
Fried pork ribs.
crispy and very well-marinated. it was priced at RM2.70 just for pork ribs only.
but portion was small.
if you think Malacca is too far for you, Hing Loong also has a branch in Damansara Uptown.
#8 Mille Crepe @ Nadeje.
a sweet goodbye kiss from Malacca. this is de other one not to be missed.
Flower tea- de good companion.
Original Mille Crepe.
highly recommended and still de best.
Red Rum Raisin.
looks like original but they are different (spot de difference please).
I still prefer original anyway =P
upper left and clockwise:
1) Praline Lover 2) Gula Melaka 3) Tiramisu 4) Double Chocolate
thanks for de kilogram souvenirs, mwah!
