pre-birthday dinner | Fukuya Japanese Restaurant, Jalan Delima KL

pre-birthday treat at Fukuya.
to live up with de name of Fukuya: Authentic Japanese Cuisine, disposable chopsticks have caused a pain in de eye knowing how much I would he would spend for dinner.

from top to bottom:
#1   Spider Maki   RM28 ---highly recommended
#2   Salmon Sushi   RM13 each
for spider maki, de soft shell crab was very cripsy. ikura (roe) was crunchy and fresh too and it literally bounced lively in de mouth. salmon sushi was fresh, but de faint black edge which I believed was de skin residue of salmon cut was a pain in de eye (not shown in de picture as it was hidden on de other side of de sushi). wasabi was fresh but not considered de freshest. pickled ginger was good and has de kick.

Fresh Edamame   RM33
a 'normal' edamame would cost about half of de price of fresh edamame. what makes it different is that one is imported fresh and de other is imported frozen. there was a difference in taste maybe but I personally think that it was not very significant. it could be just a plain placebo effect.

from upper right and clockwise:
#1   Appetizer
#2   Chawanmushi (steamed egg custard)
#3   Mini Tempura
#4   Fresh melon
we ordered two dinner sets and each was served with sides mentioned above plus a bowl of rice, pickles, and miso soup. start with de elegant displayed of their appetizer, in de centre is their signature uni (sea urchin) tofu, surrounded by dainty bites including shisamo (willow-leaf fish), fried fish, smoked salmon roll, and grilled scallop which were served chilled. to be honest, chilled food wasn't really my cup of tea so I find it a lil hard to enjoy it. chawanmushi was another beautiful display with addition of shungiku (chrysanthemum leaves) and lemon slice on top of de usual ingredients. mini tempura was crispy but mediocre and lastly, to end with a sweet fresh melon.

Gyokai Teppanyaki Set   RM100
a seafood steak served with sautéed vegetables, a huge hotate (scallop), a prawn, salmon, and chicken (choice of beef available). I was quite surprised by its appearance because it mimicked de eat-all-you-can Japanese buffet teppanyaki, but only they were arranged nicely. de accompanied sauce was de saviour but overall it didn't give a wow effect.

Sashimi Set   RM110
assorted sashimi, considered fresh but not de best. again, salmon slice has de black edge and I think it was more obvious in this picture.

overall, I think dinner menu was pricey for Fukuya considering de food that was served. knowing that similar food would be served in their lunch menu, you may actually consider to come for lunch for a better value of money if dining environment is just a blahhh.

and I start counting down to turn 28 :)
thank you, Saam =)
XOXO
