Short Getaway | Langkawi 3D2N

DESTINATION : Langkawi
Travel period : 230116-250116

spontaneous travel basically summarised this Langkawi trip. frankly speaking I did not expect it to happen because things usually did not go according to plan. thumbs up to everyone! reminder: our last group vacation was perhaps when Jamie was still a foetus.

these were de very best things we did in Langkawi :

1. Gunung Raya.
this is de infamous highest point of Langkawi that is reachable by car -excellent adventure but not difficult drive through de forest. be careful with de monkeys
sunkissed from Langkawi.
an entrance fee of RM10 is needed to enter de viewing tower for a beautiful 360-degree view (comes with complimentary, bottomless tea). for those morning beast don't expect to get you fix here because there is no coffee.
impressive scenic view.
and surprisingly this place was not crazily crowded with tourists
it was a windy and cooling weather at de top. we didn't take a sip of de complimentary tea because it looked a bit mouldy-like in de pot (you can still drink at your own risk). honestly, I didn't expect Langkawi to be beautiful (something at least) so I do hope de local government can maintain a proper upkeep at such site. do something to improve de unpleasant toilet-like smell at ticket counter or at least start with your tea.
Paris has Eiffel Tower; Langkawi has Triplet Tower.
impossible to find it elsewhere.

2. Cenang Beach | Pantai Cenang.
I guessed we did nothing meaningful for de first day except a beach stroll after Starbucks. we did not prepare for watersport so there weren't much we can do. parasailing seems fun so I think I'll be back for it someday!
beautiful sunset- unedited pictures.
don't you think de bottom picture resemble de UFO?

3. Orkid Ria Seafood Restaurant | Pantai Cenang.
this is one of de popular seafood restaurants according to blogosphere. true enough, this place have de most crowds during peak hour but I personally felt de food was nothing very special to de locals. prepare more cash as dining around Cenang area is relatively expensive.

from upper left and clockwise:
#1 Salted egg crab
#2 Sweet & sour crab (mud crab)
#3 Claypot tofu
#4 Steamed egg white tiger prawn
#5 Stir-fry pea shoots
#6 Lemon chicken

#7 Fried squid
all in all, fried squid was de only thing I liked. we took de staff 's recommendation to order salted egg crab but we were quite upset over de choice what happen to salted egg. it should be coated with golden-yellow sauce but not tasteless and watery. we were also disappointed with sweet and sour crab because it tasted exactly like boiled crab with sauce on surface. de tiger prawn, on de other hand, was fresh but not very fabulous. I could only blame de cooking style- maybe western is a safer choice since tourists flocked this area?

4. Red Tomato Restaurant & Lounge | Pantai Cenang.

from upper left and clockwise:
#1 Zuricher schnitzel -chicken breast strips in parmesan cream sauce ---recommended
#2 Pizza margherita -smoked salmon
#3 Wellness salad -mixed greens, tomato, cucumber, avocado, mango, cranberry, and smoked pepper tuna
#4 Prawn aglio olio
#5 Farmers choice -a combination of potato (mashed, sautéed or wedges), tomato, mushroom, egg & cheese w/ choice of beef bacon, turkey ham or just vege served with homemade bread or toast

we felt sorry as we did a mistake by bringing in our takeaway Starbucks to de restaurant. de owner then approached us and told that they served in-house coffee but not in a polite manner. luckily de one who took our order was a nice guy and each of us have ordered a drink in return. mediocre mango lassi btw why put mango juice?! I'm not sure whether de diner's mood was affected and I would only recommend chicken strips since others were pretty forgettable.

5. Langkawi Skycab & Skybridge.
i) Art in Paradise.
we took combo B package (RM57 with Mycard) which include SkyCab, SkyDome, and 3D Art Museum. we started with Art in Paradise aka 3D art museum and spent approximately an hour while waiting for our next scheduled cable car ride in need of aircon in a hot weather!

this museum has 3 floors and each floor has paintings on walls and floors with a designated theme. you have to figure out how to be creative with de art murals. anyway, if you're not into photography this place may be a lil boring to you.

ii) SkyDome.
SkyDome is a free entrance for every purchase of SkyCab ticket. it offers a 3D image projection of animation film at a 360-degree panoramic view (you will be entertained by this "short movie" in de middle of queue for SkyCab). our movie was a roller coaster ride that was really boring waste of time

this thrill ride lasted about 5 mins.

iii) Langkawi Skybridge.
it is one steep cable car ride to de top with stopping at de middle station for visitors to capture de scenery of Langkawi Island. this ride might seem scary at de ground but de actual experience was fun. when we were at de Skybridge we really enjoyed de breathtaking view of Langkawi Island. one thing I don't understand is that they sell additional ticket for skyglide (funicular) or/ walk through natural track at de top station, creating unnecessary crowds to gather at place with limited space. why you cannot do this at de ground station and provide a clear instructions to visitors?

typical wefie with no backgrounds :P
from upper picture:
#1 middle station
#2 SkyBridge

glass bottom flooring at parts of de skybridge.
step on it if you dareeeee and look down.

a bird's eye view of Langkawi Skybridge.
beautiful stunning view.

6. Yellow Cafe Langkawi | Pantai Penang.
this is a very distinctive cafe because everything is in cheerful yellow as implied by its name. it has a great vibe and lovely location because diners get to enjoy their food by de beach. de cafe is operated by caucasians and we met a lovely blond who can speak fluent Chinese even though we were not treated with friendly people in de first place. but be sure your wallet is full because bill payment is strictly by CASH ONLY.

sorry for de poor quality pictures because lighting was kinda dim at Yellow Cafe. food was average but it stood out if compared to other restaurants at Cenang area. overall I would recommend lamb chop.

7. Restauran Wan Thai | Kuah.
for food, de only place in Langkawi you must not missed is Wan Thai. to reach Kuah you need to travel slightly further from de city but afraid not as you can do shopping here too since many duty free shops are located nearby this area.

#1 Green curry chicken

#2 Seafood tom yam
#3 Glass noodle salad
#4 Pandan chicken
#5 Stir-fry kailan
#6 Wan thai prawn
#7 Omelet ---recommended
#8 Chili soft shell crab ---recommended
green curry, tom yam, and glass noodle were spicy as predicted. other dishes were basically non-spicy or at acceptable threshold. trust me, chill crab was not really spicy although de name kinda made it fiery.

#9 Fried sooting (squid) ---recommended
too bad mango sticky rice was not available (it is rated as one of de must-try!). must be some mango maniac reserve all of it?! #firstworldproblem

can we have another group vacation in 2017?
