25-27.05.2016 | Pangkor Laut Resort 3D2N

DESTINATION : Pangkor Laut Resort (PLR)
Travel period : 25-27.05.2016

we have talked about it for a while and finally our long awaited, much anticipated journey to PLR is here (=

to travel to Marina Island Jetty by car, it took approximately a 3.5 hours drive from KLfrom de jetty, you will be transferred to PLR via a speedboat, with a travel time of approximately 15 minutes. de same travel duration is estimated for transfer back from de resort to de jetty. you are required to check-in to resort’s office at Marina Island Pangkor at least 20 minutes prior to scheduled speedboat departure times.

at de resort’s office, you will be offered with personalised pampering. staffs will identified by name and served with refreshment drinks and hot towel. it was really thoughtful of de resort as we did not have to worry about our luggages because they will be transferred straight to our room once we checked-in. and of course de lounge has wireless internet access too.

PLR has granted us with a warm welcome - hello paradise!

upon arrival, we were greeted with smiles and ushered to de lobby. again, we were served with refreshment drinks and wet towels. at de lobby, a short briefing was given by de island staff before ushered their guests to de villa.
we have opted for de Resident's Package at MYR 857++ per room per night for Garden Villa. this package include:

1) Daily breakfast, lunch and dinner
2) YES Huddle 4G Mobile Hotspot for wireless internet access
3) Return scheduled speedboat transfers to and from Marina Island Pangkor
4) Jungle Walk with de Resident Naturalist

basically I think it is worth considering a package with meals (unless you don't eat) because food in PLR doesn't come cheap and can easily costs up to RM100-200 per meal per person. other than Garden Villa, other room types available are Sea Villa, Spa Villa, and Hill Villa which carry its own distinctive features. ohya and remember to bring your sports attire for jungle walk because I literally forgot mine!

inside view of Garden Villa.

outdoor bathtub is only available at de ground units and it comes with bath salt. an aromatherapy incense will be make available everyday after housekeeping which comes twice daily. de room was huge but I prefer modern hotel type so I wasn't completely satisfied with de cleanliness. I'm particular on de kettle with yellow stain in a 5-star hotel and maybe there were just too many glasses to clean in de room.

DAY 1
arrival and check-in > stroll around PLR > spa booking @ Spa Villa > sunset @ Emerald Bay > dinner @ Uncle Lim's Kitchen > night chill @ Lap Pool

don't be surprised if you see fruit bats (harmless) hanging on de tree.

complimentary shuttle service is provided for guests to travel around PLR but if you like to walk, beware of mosquitoes! anyway, certain roads lead to place at de other end like Emerald Bay are steep so shuttle service is most preferred.

Emerald Bay was truly a beautiful beach from de picture but I would say it lacks a lil in reality. you get clean and crystal clear emerald water but there were too many fallen wet leaves and branches at its surroundingsmosquito galore starts at 6pm so make sure mosquito repellant is in your to-bring-list.

DINNER @ Uncle Lim's Kitchen.
this place served Nyonya and Hockchew Chinese-style home cooking hence you'll be expecting dishes which simultaneously taste sweet, sour, salty, and mild spicy or have a mixed and balanced sweet and sour taste. opening hours begin from 6.30pm to 10.30pm (only dinner). reservation is highly recommended because this place can be fully booked during peak hours.

from upper left and clockwise:
#1 Avocado cream w/ citrus pearls RM25 ---recommended
#2 Duck spring roll RM60
#3 Calamansi chicken RM75 ---recommended
#4 Mango pudding RM25
#5 Fantasy prawns RM85 ---recommended

dining absorbed Chinese-style because dishes were shared and accompanied with a bowl of white rice. complimentary tea was also given in a Chinese teapot. we have prepared mentally not to expect food in PLR to be good but our first meal in Uncle Lim did surprise us (low threshold theory). de big sized prawns were amazing.

#6 Uncle Lim's aromatic style sea bass (fillet) RM100 ---recommended

when we were almost done one staff stepped forward and asked for food review so I casually commented about de rice was a bit hard I never comment on rice gradeI was not expecting de staff to respond by saying "rice was cooked using de same way" and he actually suggested to order fried rice because it has oil to make rice softerI was displeased sum of bill came out as RM400+ but thank goodness it was covered under Resident's package.

DAY 2
buffet breakfast @ Feast Village > jungle walk chilling @ Lap Pool > lunch @ Chapman's Bar / Emerald Bay > spa treatment > dinner @ Feast Village

a hornbill greeted us good morning.

buffet breakfast offered by Feast village has an infinite variety which made a long breakfast. our morning was indeed packed "full". be sure to walk around de place (don't be too greedy at first!) because they have cheese bar, fresh juice bar, and roti canai, made to order and these are located slightly further from de dining area. alright somehow I'm regret for not taking any of my breakfast pictures. #asian

jungle walk chilling at Lap Pool.

walking down de bridge from Sea Villa will eventually lead you to Fisherman's Cove and Uncle Lim's Kitchen.

LUNCH @ Chapman's Bar.

Chapman's Bar opens up to an excellent view of Emerald Bay in de absence of mosquitoes and flies.

opening hours begin from 11.00am to 8.00pm (lunch and dinner). food was okay and considered slightly cheaper at Chapman's Bar but to me I think this place wasn't really ideal to host a candlelight dinner.

from upper left and clockwise:
#1 Sorbet (double scoop) RM30
#2 Ikan bakar RM65
#3 Cuttlefish mango salad RM52
#4 Beef burger RM56

for his beef patty it was too dry but my not really grilled fish was okay in overall (rice wasn't dry). cuttlefish in de mango salad has a peculiar texture which I didn't quite like but we both loved de sorbet. one thing I seriously do not understand flies are all around Pangkor. this kinda muddled up de dining experience so I guess de tips was to eat as quickly as possible?

SPA TREATMENT | Romantic Escape.
pampering yourself with de spa treatment provided by de award-winning Spa Village Pangkor Laut is definitely de only one of de must-do in PLR but of course it does come with a hefty price (basic treatment priced at RM200++). we had de Romantic Escape for 3 hours started with a 25-minute bath, followed by de choice of massage conducted in a private spa pavilion :

1. Footbath and Chinese foot pounding
2. Traditional Malay bath house
3. Herbal steam inhalation
4. Japanese-style cleansing with 'goshi-goshi' cloth, followed by a dip in de heated Rotenburg pool (served with green tea)
5. Shanghai scrub (a complementary Batik Sarong will be worn at de end of de session)
after Shanghai scrub, guests will be served with a cup of ginger tea in de tranquil surroundings before continue with their spa treatment.

6. Aroma massage
7. Chocolate scrub
8. Milk bath (served with chocolate and tea)

try to choose an early session if you somehow attract mosquitoes. de boy developed some minor skin allergy after de spa (he has never had it before) so I guess we have to be more careful in selecting our treatment next time too luxurious for him (maybe chocolate scrub hmm). anyway, this is definitely a unique retreat and unforgettable experience to us. I enjoyed de different bathing experience from different cultures and it was fun.

DINNER @ Feast Village.
opening hours start from 7.30am to 10.30am and from 6.30pm to 10.30pm (breakfast and dinner). for dinner, Feast Village offers Western, Japanese and Malay-style menu options. sorry for de poor quality pictures due to de dimmed surroundings.

from top to bottom:
#1 Spaghetti with zucchini
#2 Pineapple fried rice

we both preferred fried rice since de spaghetti with four precious slices of zucchini was rather tasteless and bland. I think they make better breakfast.

DAY 3
chilling @ Lap Pool > check-out and goodbye
a duration of 3D2N stay in PLR is just perfect for us. during our stay in PLR we have enjoyed meals comprised of 1 breakfast, 1 lunch, and 2 dinners. to our surprise, we have a balance of 1 breakfast and 1 lunch yet to be redeemed. haha I promise I'll be back with more stomach quota.

thank you for de warm hospitality PLR!
