Taiwan (Taipei/Taichung 6D5N): Qingjing Farm

QINGJING FARM 清境農場
Nantou County
09.09.2018

with de help of Sun Moon Inn, we took a private car service to Qingjing Farm (round trip; NT$ 4000) early in de morning. travel time from Sun Moon Lake to Qingjing Farm took approximately 1 hr 40 mins (slightly less than 2 hrs)

de entrance to Qingjing Farm.

entry to de farm required an admission ticket priced at NT$ 200 (weekday NT$ 160). be sure to check out their farm shows and make your entrance ticket worth de value :

1. Sheep-shearing Show
show times: 09:30 / 14:30 (weekend and holidays only)

2. Equestrian/Horse Riding Show
show times: 10:45 / 15:45 (everyday)

de farm was divided into two main sections, i) Green Green Grasslands 青青草原區 (sheep section), and ii) Guanshan Pastoral Area 觀山牧區 (horse section) that were separated by a hawker market. with de stamp on hand it would allow entry to de other section (stamp would also allow re-entry within de same day). we recommend to start from Green Green Grasslands at de top (north entrance) and walk downhill to de horse section to make your journey more comfortable.

waiting under de scorching sun for Horse Riding Show.

we missed de live sheep shearing demonstration as we arrived de farm at a time passed its morning session (we didn't feel like skipping Sun Moon Inn's breakfast). we made it to de Horse Riding Show nonetheless. de show began with a clown preshow which I felt was unnecessary, followed by an acrobatic performance by skilled riders. originated from Kazakhstan, de stunts performed while riding a horse were highly professional and entertainingafter de show, you would allow to take a picture with de horses and horse riders (expect queue). please take note de show was all conversed in Chinese.

close interaction with de friendly sheep, his wool was dense and coarse.

they have an open pasture ground for sheep (no sight of cows and goats) to graze freely. seriously, you couldn't have been bothered by them if you have no feeds. you can get sheep food from de dispenser machine at NT$ 10. meanwhile, for kids who are interested, they can opt for a pony ride experience (short distance only).

anyway, de sheep's wool reminded me of some Scotch-Brite products (oh my). it is very far from de fluffy white sheep I imagined.

hi sheep!
I think she looked a bit confused.

you need to be careful of de bio waste (sheep manure) when venturing to de pastures. think twice if you want to lay down or rolling down de grass hill. around de area there were some gift shops offering sheep-related souvenirs and sheep-milk related products.

panoramic views of surrounding grasslands and mountains.

undeniably this place is ideal for families with kids. some may feel this place is more suitable for kids than adults since you paid for farm shows, livestocks and green grasslands (I second that). there were a number of sheep roaming around but I expected to see more sheep. all in all, we still enjoyed de beautiful lush surroundings and had a good stroll breathing in some fresh air. basically this attraction offers serenity, peace, and many photo opportunities. if you're more to a city dweller this farm experience may not be your place.

de farm runs parallel to de Qingjing Skywalk (清境高空觀景步道) (about 1 km walk). however, an entry ticket was required at an additional cost of NT$ 50. from de Skywalk, we were astounded by de open view of de picturesque mountains. thanks for de clear and sunny day we could see cloud-capped mountains in de distance.

de sky started pouring when we were about to leave. this was quite unexpected but we were grateful as we took de right time to visit this place. I personally think that a night stay at this area is not necessary unless you want to capture sunrise. we recommend a day trip (allocate half day to spend plus travel time) to Qingjing Farm would be sufficient, and most importantly visit during a sunny day otherwise your memory of this trip would be running for shelter.

this is de last post to sum up our trip to Taiwan (Taipei/Taichung). till then, see you again!
