Travelog: D12-D14 Copenhagen, Denmark: Final Stop

DESTINATION : COPENHAGEN, DENMARK
Travel period : 07-10.05.2013

DAY 12-DAY 14
moving up north to our last destination to one of de Scandinavia, we arrived at Denmark: Copenhagen. coming to de end of our journey, we began to travel at a slower pace knowing that it was about time to miss home.

Godmorgen (goo-mourn) Copenhagen!

i) Accommodation: Saga Hotel, Vesterbro.
we opted for two Double Rooms (with surcharge of an extra bed) at a total price of 1700+ DKK (Danish Krone) per night. price was inclusive of breakfast and also private bathroom. cheaper room rates are available for those rooms which share a common bathroom amenities. de hotel has free and considerably good Wifi.

in general, rooms were nothing special but good value considering de price for expensive Copenhagen. it was easy to find and only within few minutes walk from Central Station. and for us who arrived de city late at night, de proximity to train station was really helpful. de only downside for this hotel was perhaps it has no elevator. struggling our luggages up to 4th floor wasn't really easy especially when it was towards de end of our trip.

ii) Rosenborg Castle.
we stumbled upon this place not knowing that it is actually home to some of Denmark's greatest cultural treasures. not only located in a beautiful garden, Rosenborg castle also has a treasury underground which exhibits Danish crowns and jewels. moreover, we were pretty much excited over de free Wifi here. #icaninstagram

The King's Garden.
taking a nice stroll through The King's Garden, also known as Rosenborg Garden.

trying on a levitation photography.

iii) Nyhavn.
serving as a heritage harbour, Nyhavn is regarded as de oldest part of Copenhagen harbour and a busy commercial port back in those days. today, it has evolved into a picturesque harbour with old sailing ships docked along de canals and colourful facade of old houses.

colourful facade along Nyhavn.

although this is a place that all tourists will go, it is still one of my favourite to stroll. you know I can't resist colourful buildings (especially tall and narrow ones) that lined together. in Nyhavn, you can choose to dine in one of those cosy restaurants but be sure your wallet is full.

or alternatively, you can have ice-cream too but it could be kinda disappointing.

iv) Canal Tours Copenhagen.
(*free with Copenhagen Card)
departure can be at Nyhavn or Gammal Strand but for free tour with Copenhagen Card it is only applicable to departure from Gammal Strand.

during de canal tour, we passed by a few attractions including de Copenhagen Opera House, Amalienborg Palace, Christiansborg Palace, Black Diamond library, and The Little Mermaid statue. it was a guided tour that lasted for approximately an hour. however, de boat was kinda loud and we could barely hear de guide's audio most of de time.

v) Copenhagen attractions.
#1   City Hall Square (Rådhuspladsen) | Strøget.

statue of HC Andersen located next to de City Hall.
Danish author best known for children's fairy tales, including The Little Mermaid, Thumbelina, and The Ugly Duckling. I read these when I was young!

#2   Amalienborg Palace.
Amalienborg Palace is de residence of Danish royal family, consists of four identical palaces surrounding an octagonal courtyard.

unable to be captured in this picture but the road mimicked a huge roundabout.

#3   St. Alban's Church.

view from de south gate of Kastellet- The Citadel.

The two Royal Danish Guards wannabe.

we casually walked through The Citadel while on our way to The Little Mermaid as we hoped to reach there in time before sunset. but seriously, I would think that strolling in de military fortress was kinda interesting, if only we have more time. it does not require admission fee.

#4   The Little Mermaid statue, Langelinie.

sakura at Langelinie Park.
beautiful sakura not only in Japan.

and finally, we found her sitting on a rock looking longingly on those tourists who came 365 days (not Prince Eric) just to take a picture with her. at Langelinje Pier you will find de bronze sculpture of "The Little Mermaid", Copenhagen's most famous but over over rated tourist attraction. I hope she's not de real life Ariel.

#5   Gefion Fountain.

Gefion Fountain and St. Alban's Church.

it pays tribute to Gefjun, which depicts de Norse goddess who transformed her sons into oxen in order to plow de island of Zealand (where Denmark is located) into existence. I would say this fountain definitely carries more wow factor than The Little Mermaid statue.

vi) Visit Carlsberg.
(free entrance with Copenhagen Card)
visiting de brewery would provide a brief idea on how de world-famous Carlsberg Beer is made. it would took approximately 15 mins walk from de train station at Valby.

there was a smaller replica of The Little Mermaid statue that Carl Jacobsen donated to Copenhagen situated in de courtyard. they claimed her as "The Little Mermaid's sister". here she was kinda in peace lonely as there weren't 8273857 tourists came for her.

de bottle collections.

these were just minor part of it. despite de impressive collections from all over de world, sorry to say they were a lil dusty. and guess what, we found Malaysia =)

quick but satisfied lunch.
yumyum... we need some beer to complete.
you couldn't possibly miss out Carlsberg.. TADAH!
admission fee includes choice of two beers or soft drinks at de end of de tour.

remember to shop for some of their Carlsberg souvenirs.

vii) Frederiksborg Castle, Hillerød.
we got to know this attraction via phone app with only address provided. our visit to this place was merely a try of luck because it was beyond de direction our map could provide. reaching de place in late evening, we only have sufficient time to visit de exterior of de castle as most of de shops were closed.

beautiful view.

if you choose to see only a few castles in Zealand, Frederiksborg Castle is definitely de one not to miss even though it is located slightly further from de city centre.

Casa Nostra Cafe & Restaurant.

last dinner in Copenhagen.

we did not expect much for food in Denmark but surprisingly we were pleased with our choice. worry not, price here is much more affordable compared to Copenhagen.

viii) Tivoli Gardens.
(free entrance with Copenhagen card)
located not far from Saga Hotel, Tivoli Gardens is reachable within walking distance. more than just an amusement park, it can also be a leisure place to walk around.

beautiful tulips blooming.
my heart couldn't possibly withstand these extreme rides anymore. aha guts no more!

Tivoli at night.
unlike de usual theme park, I found Tivoli is quite relaxing and not that noisy. at night, this place is all lit up beautifully with lights.

we met them at a random street.
I wish I can bring them home! awww...

and that's a wrap for our Europe Trip.. goodbye till I see you again!
