23-27.06.2022 | PLR Trip 5D4N

Our first visit to PLR was probably about 6 years back in year 2016. I remembered that we had a fabulous time and it was the beautiful surroundings and amazing spa facilities that made the experience special.

We came at the wrong time because some areas including the Spa Villas were closed for major renovation works. The spa services were all temporary shifted to some of the modified Garden Villas. Our experience could have been better with more facilities open and if only we were informed beforehand.

1. THE PLR VILLA

With the intention of wanting to do more walks, we chose to stay in Hill Villa. Upon checking in our villa, we were disappointed to see a sad balcony view (hindered by overgrown trees) so we have requested a room change otherwise the 4 nights stay would be a total disastrous. We were lucky to have our wish granted.

Beautiful view from the balcony.
Remember to keep the sliding door closed at all times. Beware of monkeys 🐒

Loving the natural source of Vitamin D.

2. THE FOOD

FEAST VILLAGE - BREAKFAST
Daily breakfast was served here. We loved being ushered to a corner table facing the jetty which will receive the morning sun. The breakfast spread in Feast Village features a huge variety across different types of cuisine.

Good morning PLR!
Enjoying the breakfast with a spectacular view. How could you resist?

Sightings of the hornbills.
The usual guests during breakfast time.

UNCLE LIM'S KITCHEN - DINNER 1
The restaurant is now relocated next to Feast Village and no longer required shuttle service. It is easily reachable within walking distance.

Our sea view table.
Just the right time to capture the golden rays of the evening sun.

Dinner 1

From bottom and clockwise:
#1 Beef Rendang
#2 Assam Prawns
#3 Stir-Fried Vegetables

Dinner was good but somehow it didn't turn out better than the last time like what I was hoping. It just felt a lil express meal liked.

FEAST VILLAGE - DINNER 2 & 3

Dinner 2

Generous portion and good value for money.

Dinner 3

We came back on the following night since some restaurants were not operating due to the renovation works. Tonight we had Malay cuisine.

The food quality was not likely equivalent to the price but hey I think he just want some drinks.

JUNGLE WALK & CHAPMAN'S BAR - DINNER 4
We couldn't reserve a place for jungle walk in the morning so we ended up joining the afternoon session. It was only both of us with the Resident Naturalist so indirectly this made the jungle walk a private one. The entire journey was rather quiet with no sign of animals and all I have was a picture of the endangered tree. Nevertheless, we had a great time talking with the Resident Naturalist along the route.

The Island Flying Fox.

We've learned that the age of trees in tropical rainforests (e.g. Malaysia) where there are no annual dry seasons cannot be obtained by counting annual growth rings because such rings do not develop. Our almost one hour trek ended at the Emerald Bay and this brought us to the Chapman's Bar for an early dinner.

The Emerald Bay.

Dinner 4

From top:
#1 Kaliama's Banana Leaf Curry
#2 Makanan Laut Bersambal Bakar

Dinner at Chapman's Bar was pleasant. It has became our favourite.

Food was expected to be expensive in PLR and on average, one would expect to spend about RM100 for a meal per person. We kinda regretted as the package we took only include daily breakfasts we thought we were not eating that much and without speedboat transfers. This makes the Residents Package the best value for money since breakfast, lunch and dinner is all inclusive.

3. SCROLLING THROUGH PLR

The resort remains a very special place in our hearts.

On our last day the place started to get extremely busy as there were arrival of several big groups. It was rather noisy and happy to say we were leaving at the right time.

Thank you PLR!
